For the most part our examples demonstrated the basics of Google Forms assessments. You could say that these are simply digital versions of multiple choice or short response paper assessments. The only new capability is the instant feedback to the user. However, online assessments are capable of so much more, we can push the upper bounds of the SAMR Model and Depth of Knowledge Framework using computer based assessments. Instead of using static text to ask questions we can now have students manipulate interactive graphs and figures, watch embedded videos, and implement an adaptive approach to taking an assessment.
The examples below use a Google Form embedded with an interactive GeoGebra worksheet. The test taker must manipulate the graph in order to answer the questions correctly. Additionally, this structure can be used with a an accompanying YouTube video instead. Therefore, we now have the tools to use digital assessments for more than the simple replacement of their paper based equivalent. We can use them to assess our students in ways that require exploration, investigation, and analysis.
